Revive Social - Settings Reference

Revive Social (formerly Tweet Old Post) is a WordPress plugin that automatically shares your posts to social media networks on a recurring schedule. You find all settings under Revive Social > Dashboard in the WordPress admin sidebar, which opens a dashboard with six tabs across the top: Accounts, General Settings, Post Format, Custom Schedule, Sharing Queue, and Sharing Logs. A separate Revive Social > Exclude Posts page lets you manage which individual posts are excluded from sharing.

Accounts

The Accounts tab is the default view when you open the Revive Social dashboard. It displays all connected social media accounts and lets you add or remove them.

Each connected account shows the network icon, the account name, and a toggle switch to activate or deactivate it. Only active accounts are used when sharing is running. You can click the toggle to switch an account on or off.

The free version supports connecting one Facebook account and one X (Twitter) account. The Pro version unlocks additional networks — LinkedIn, Tumblr, VK, Webhook, Mastodon, and Bluesky — and allows up to 50 accounts per service. Google My Business, Telegram, and Instagram require the Business plan or higher. Instagram accounts are connected through Facebook and require a Facebook Page linked to an Instagram Business or Creator account.

For Google Business Profile (GMB), you can connect multiple Google accounts and manage locations across all of them simultaneously. Revive Social handles token refreshes per account to ensure reliable posting to all connected locations.

When you have more than one X account connected, a warning appears advising you to disconnect one to comply with X's policy against posting the same content across multiple accounts.

At the bottom of the tab, a "Remove all accounts" button lets you disconnect every account at once. This button is disabled while a request is in progress.

If the Pro add-on is installed but no license key has been activated, a notice reminds you to activate your license on the sidebar to unlock Pro features.

General Settings

The General Settings tab controls global sharing behavior that applies across all connected accounts. You must click Save at the bottom of the tab for changes to take effect.

Minimum Interval Between Shares

This setting is hidden on the Business plan and higher, where per-account scheduling replaces it.

Sets how many hours must pass between consecutive shares. The free version enforces a minimum of 12 hours for new installations and 5 hours for older installations. The Pro version lowers the minimum to 0.5 hours (30 minutes). If you set the interval below 12 hours without Pro, an upsell notice appears.

Minimum Post Age

Sets the minimum number of days a post must have existed before it becomes eligible for sharing. Use this to prevent recently published posts from being reshared through the automated schedule. For example, setting this to 30 means only posts published at least 30 days ago are included.

Maximum Post Age

Sets the maximum number of days old a post can be and still be eligible for sharing. Posts older than this value are excluded from the sharing pool. Use this to prevent very old, outdated content from being shared. This setting requires Pro — it appears disabled on the free version.

Number of Posts

Controls how many posts the plugin shares per account each time a sharing event occurs. The maximum is 4. Increasing this causes more posts to go out in each sharing cycle. This setting requires Pro — it appears disabled on the free version.

Share More Than Once?

When enabled, the plugin automatically restarts sharing from the beginning once all eligible posts have been shared to your active accounts. When disabled, sharing stops after every eligible post has been shared once, and you receive an email notification.

Post Types

Selects which WordPress post types are included in the sharing pool. By default, only standard posts are selected. The Pro version allows you to select custom post types such as pages, WooCommerce products, or any other registered post type. If you select the "attachment" post type, an informational notice appears explaining that you need to mark individual media files for sharing in the Media Library.

Taxonomies

This setting is hidden on the Business plan and higher, where per-account taxonomy filtering in Post Format replaces it.

Lets you filter the sharing pool by categories, tags, or custom taxonomies. Select one or more taxonomy terms to include only posts that belong to those terms. Check the "Exclude?" checkbox to invert the behavior and exclude posts matching the selected terms instead.

The free version limits you to 4 taxonomy selections. An upsell notice appears when this limit is reached.

Keyword Filtering

Lets you include or exclude posts from the sharing pool based on a comma-separated list of words or phrases matched against the post title and content. Enter the keywords you want to match, then use the "Exclude?" checkbox to choose the behavior.

When "Exclude?" is checked, posts matching any keyword are excluded from sharing. When it is unchecked, only posts matching at least one keyword are shared. On the free version and Starter plan, this is the keyword filter that applies to your sharing pool. On higher Pro plans, keyword filtering is available in each account's Post Format settings.

Update Post Published Date After Share

When enabled, the plugin updates the WordPress published date of a post each time it is shared. This causes the post to appear as recently published in your blog's listing. Use this if you want shared posts to resurface in chronological feeds. This setting requires Pro — it appears disabled on the free version.

Enable Google Analytics Tracking

When enabled, the plugin appends UTM query parameters to the URLs in your shared posts so you can track traffic from Revive Social in Google Analytics. The default UTM source is set to the social network name, and you can customize the campaign medium and name in the Post Format tab.

Enable Instant Sharing Feature (Post on Publish)

When enabled, a sharing panel appears in the WordPress post editor that lets you share posts to your connected accounts immediately when you publish or update them. This is separate from the automated recurring schedule — it gives you on-demand sharing at the moment of publishing.

Enable Instant Sharing By Default

This setting only appears when Enable Instant Sharing Feature is checked.

When enabled, the instant sharing option is pre-checked by default whenever you create a new post. Disable this if you prefer to opt in to instant sharing on a per-post basis rather than having it active by default.

Enable Share Content Variations

When enabled, you can go to each post in the WordPress editor and add multiple different share messages. The plugin rotates through these variations each time it shares that post, so your social posts look different over time instead of repeating the same text. These variations override the Share Content setting in Post Format. This setting requires Pro — it appears disabled on the free version.

Share Message Variations In the Order They Are Added

This setting only appears when Enable Share Content Variations is checked.

By default, share content variations are selected randomly each time a post is shared. When you enable this setting, variations are used in the order you added them. This setting requires Pro.

Housekeeping

When enabled, the plugin deletes all of its saved settings, logs, and data from your WordPress database when you uninstall (delete) the plugin. Leave this disabled if you plan to reinstall later and want to keep your configuration.

Revive Social does not create custom database tables. It stores everything it saves — settings, connected accounts, and sharing logs — as WordPress options in the standard wp_options table, which is why Housekeeping is enough to remove all of its data.

⚠️ Important: If you find an unfamiliar database table on your site, it does not belong to Revive Social, even when its name or its rows mention social networks, shares, clicks, or referrers. Export a full database backup first, then work out which plugin created the table — check your installed plugins for social login, sharing button, or click and referrer tracking features, and search for the exact table name. Contact that plugin's support team before you empty or delete the table.

Contributing

When enabled, the plugin sends anonymous, non-sensitive usage data to help the developers understand how the plugin is used and improve it. A "What do we track?" link provides details about what data is collected.

Post Format

The Post Format tab contains per-account settings that control how your posts are formatted when shared to each social media network. Select an account from the list on the left to configure its settings on the right. At least one active account is required for this tab to show settings. Click Save at the bottom after making changes.

Language

This setting only appears when the WPML multilingual plugin is active on your site.

Selects which language version of your posts to share on the selected account. This is useful on multilingual sites where you want different social accounts to share content in different languages — for example, sharing English posts to one X account and Spanish posts to another. This setting requires Pro — it appears disabled on the free version.

Share Content

Determines which part of the post is used as the caption text in your social shares. The available options are:

  • Post Title — uses the post's title.
  • Post Content — uses the post's body content, truncated to the maximum character length.
  • Post Title & Content — combines the title and content.
  • Post Excerpt — uses the post's excerpt field.
  • Custom Field — pulls content from a custom meta field you specify. This option requires Pro.
  • Custom Content — lets you write a custom message template using magic tags like {title}, {content}, {author}, and {date}. This option requires Pro.
  • Yoast SEO Title — uses the SEO title set in the Yoast SEO plugin. Only appears when Yoast SEO is active. This option requires Pro.
  • Yoast SEO Description — uses the meta description set in Yoast SEO. Only appears when Yoast SEO is active. This option requires Pro.
  • Yoast SEO Title & Description — combines both Yoast fields. Only appears when Yoast SEO is active. This option requires Pro.

Custom Meta Field

This setting only appears when Share Content is set to Custom Field.

Enter the name of the WordPress custom meta field whose value the plugin should use as the share caption. This setting requires Pro.

Maximum Characters

Sets the maximum number of characters for the share message. Each letter, space, and symbol counts as one character. For standard X (Twitter) accounts, the maximum supported is 280 characters. For most other networks the default is 1000 characters, except Bluesky which defaults to 300.

For X accounts on Pro, enable X Premium account only when the connected account has an active X Premium subscription. This raises the Maximum Characters limit up to 25,000. If the connected account does not have X Premium, leave this setting disabled and stay within the standard 280-character limit.

Keyword Filtering

Lets you set a keyword filter for the selected account. Enter a comma-separated list of words or phrases that Revive Social should match against post titles and content, then use "Exclude?" to decide whether matching posts are removed from that account's sharing pool or are the only posts that account can share.

This per-account keyword filter requires Pro and is not available on the Starter plan. When you set it for an account, it overrides the global Keyword Filtering setting for that account. On the free version and Starter plan, the global Keyword Filtering setting in General Settings applies instead.

Additional Text

A text area where you can add extra text that the plugin appends to (or prepends before) every share for the selected account. In the Pro version, you can use magic tags like {author}, {date}, {title}, {content}, and {url} to insert dynamic post data. When Share Content is set to Custom Content, this field becomes the primary message field labeled "Message Content" and supports the same magic tags.

Override Share Content Variations with the current content

This setting only appears when Share Content is set to Custom Content.

When enabled, the custom content message you write in the Additional Text field takes priority over any per-post share content variations you have added. Use this if you want a uniform message format for all shares from this account regardless of individual post variations. This setting requires Pro.

Additional text position

This setting only appears when Share Content is not set to Custom Content.

Controls where the additional text appears relative to the post content. Choose "Beginning of Caption" to place it before the share content, or "End of Caption" to place it after.

When enabled, the plugin includes the post's permalink in the shared message. For Instagram accounts, a note recommends disabling this because Instagram does not make links in captions clickable - if you do leave it enabled, the note suggests enabling a URL shortener to keep the link compact.

This setting only appears when Include Link is enabled and the selected account's network supports comments (currently Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, VK, and Mastodon).

When enabled, the post link is posted as the first comment on the shared post rather than being included in the main caption. This can be useful on networks where links in the main post reduce reach. This setting requires Pro.

Comment Text

This setting only appears when Share link in comment is enabled and you have Pro.

Lets you customize the text of the first comment. You can use the {link} placeholder to insert the post URL. For example, "Read more on {link}" produces a comment with the full link.

Custom Field (URL)

When enabled, the plugin fetches the URL to include in shares from a custom meta field instead of using the post's permalink. Use this if your posts have a canonical URL or external URL stored in a meta field that you want to share instead. This setting requires Pro.

Custom Field (URL name)

This setting only appears when Custom Field (URL) is enabled.

Enter the name of the WordPress meta field that contains the URL you want to use in shares.

Taxonomies

Lets you filter which posts are shared from the selected account based on categories, tags, or custom taxonomies. This works the same as the global Taxonomies setting on the General Settings tab, but applies only to the selected account. Check "Exclude?" to invert the filter. This per-account taxonomy filtering requires the Pro version (Personal plan or higher). It is not available on the Starter plan.

Use URL Shortener

When enabled, the plugin shortens links before adding them to shares. This keeps your messages compact and can help track click-through rates depending on the shortener service. A note warns that the is.gd shortener is not supported by VK.

URL Shortener Service

This setting only appears when Use URL Shortener is enabled.

Selects which URL shortener service to use. Available options include rviv.ly and WordPress short URLs on the free version, with additional services like Bit.ly, Firebase, ow.ly, is.gd, and rebrand.ly available in Pro. Some services require API credentials, which appear as additional fields below when you select them.

Hashtags

Controls how hashtags are added to your shares. The available options are:

  • Don't add any hashtags — no hashtags are appended.
  • Common hashtags for all shares — uses a fixed set of hashtags you specify, applied to every share from this account.
  • Create hashtags from categories — automatically generates hashtags from the post's assigned categories. This option requires Pro.
  • Create hashtags from tags — automatically generates hashtags from the post's assigned tags. This option requires Pro.
  • Create hashtags from a custom field — pulls hashtags from a custom meta field. This option requires Pro.

Common Hashtags

This setting only appears when Hashtags is set to Common hashtags for all shares.

Enter the hashtags you want appended to every share, separated by commas. These same hashtags are used on every post shared from the selected account.

Custom Hashtags

This setting only appears when Hashtags is set to Create hashtags from a custom field.

Enter the name of the meta field that contains the hashtags for each post. This setting requires Pro.

Maximum Hashtags length

This setting only appears when any hashtag option other than "Don't add any hashtags" is selected.

Sets the maximum number of characters devoted to hashtags. Hashtags exceeding this length are truncated. This setting requires Pro when using categories, tags, or custom field hashtags.

Randomize hashtags

This setting only appears when any hashtag option other than "Don't add any hashtags" is selected.

When enabled, the order of hashtags is shuffled each time a post is shared. The randomization happens at share time and is not reflected in the Sharing Queue preview. This setting requires Pro when using categories, tags, or custom field hashtags.

Share As Image Post

When enabled, the plugin shares your posts as image posts on social media, attaching the post's featured image (or the first image in the post content) to the share. This typically results in higher engagement than link-only posts. For Instagram accounts, this option is always enabled and cannot be turned off because Instagram requires an image. For X accounts authorized through the Revive Social sign-in flow (rather than your own API keys), image sharing is not available. This setting requires Pro.

Automatically correct aspect ratio

This setting only appears for Instagram accounts.

When enabled, the plugin automatically crops images that do not meet Instagram's required aspect ratio before sharing. This prevents Instagram from rejecting the share due to invalid image dimensions.

Campaign Medium

Sets the UTM medium parameter appended to shared URLs when Google Analytics tracking is enabled on the General Settings tab. The default value is "social". Customize this to match how you want to categorize Revive Social traffic in your analytics reports. This setting requires Pro.

Campaign Name

Sets the UTM campaign name parameter appended to shared URLs. The default value is "ReviveOldPost". Change this if you want to track shares from this plugin under a different campaign name in Google Analytics. This setting requires Pro.

Custom Schedule

The Custom Schedule tab is available only on the Business and Marketer plans. On lower plans, all settings on this tab appear locked with a notice that custom scheduling requires a Business or Marketer plan.

The Custom Schedule tab lets you set per-account sharing schedules. Select an account from the list on the left to configure when it shares.

Schedule Type

Chooses between two scheduling modes:

  • Recurring — shares repeat at a fixed interval (e.g., every 6 hours). This is the simpler option.
  • Fixed — shares happen at specific times on specific days of the week. This gives you precise control.

Fixed Schedule Days

This setting only appears when Schedule Type is set to Fixed.

Select which days of the week the plugin should share for the selected account. Click a day button to toggle it on or off. You can select any combination of Monday through Sunday.

Fixed Schedule Time

This setting only appears when Schedule Type is set to Fixed.

Add one or more specific times of day when the plugin should share. Times use 24-hour format (HH:MM). Click the "+" button to add additional time slots and the "-" button to remove one. The current server time is displayed below to help you plan. The minute interval between selectable times is based on the plugin's cron schedule (5-minute increments).

Recurring Schedule Interval

This setting only appears when Schedule Type is set to Recurring.

Sets how many hours to wait between shares for the selected account. The minimum is 0.5 hours (30 minutes) for Pro users. This setting works the same as the global Minimum Interval Between Shares but applies only to the selected account.

Sharing Queue

The Sharing Queue tab shows the upcoming posts scheduled to be shared. It is a read-only preview on lower plans and fully interactive on the Business and Marketer plans.

When sharing is not started, a message indicates that you need to start sharing to see posts in the queue. When sharing is running but no posts are queued, a message suggests checking that you have at least one active account, that posts are selected in General Settings, and that a schedule is defined.

On the Business and Marketer plans, each queued post displays the post content preview, scheduled time, and the account it will be shared to. You can edit the share message or image, skip a post to move it to the next cycle, or block a post from being shared in the future. A Refresh Queue button reloads the queue from the server.

On lower plans, queued posts are visible but editing, skipping, and blocking are locked behind an upsell notice.

Sharing Logs

The Sharing Logs tab displays a chronological record of all sharing activity. Each log entry shows a timestamp, a status type (success or error), and a description of what happened.

To ensure optimal database performance, Revive Social automatically cleans up sharing logs, keeping only the most recent 1,000 entries. Because the logs are capped this way and are stored as a single WordPress option rather than in a table of their own, a separate database table holding thousands of rows is not the Revive Social sharing log.

Three buttons appear at the top when logs exist: Export logs downloads the full log as a text file, Cleanup logs manually prunes the list to the 1,000 most recent entries, and Clear logs removes all log entries. When no logs exist, a message reads "No recent logs." The tab badge in the navigation shows the number of unread log entries.

Exclude Posts

This is a separate page accessed from the Revive Social > Exclude Posts submenu, not a tab on the main dashboard.

The Exclude Posts page lets you manually exclude specific posts from the automated sharing schedule. A sidebar on the right provides filters for post type and taxonomy, and the main area lists matching posts with an option to exclude or include each one.

You can search for posts by title using the search field at the top. When a search term is entered, an "Exclude all matching" button appears that lets you exclude every post matching your search in one action. A "Show only excluded posts" toggle filters the list to display only posts you have already excluded, making it easy to review and undo exclusions.

The free version limits you to 30 excluded posts. An upsell notice appears when this limit is reached.

The sidebar on the right side of the dashboard contains controls and information that are visible across all tabs.

The status box at the top shows whether sharing is currently running, stopped, or in an error state, with a color-coded indicator. Below it, a countdown timer shows the time remaining until the next scheduled share.

The main action button reads "Click to Start Sharing" or "Click to Stop Sharing" depending on the current state. It is disabled when no active accounts are connected, with a tooltip reminding you to add an account first.

If your site appears to be a staging or development environment, a notice warns that some post types may not share and provides a link explaining how to turn off staging detection.

When the Pro add-on is installed, a license management section appears at the bottom of the sidebar. It contains a password-masked input for your license key, the expiration date if a license is active, and Activate or Deactivate buttons. Links to support, documentation, and leaving a review also appear in the sidebar when accounts are connected.

Post Editor - Instant Sharing

These controls appear in the WordPress post editor sidebar (both classic and block editor) when Enable Instant Sharing Feature is turned on in General Settings.

When editing a post, the Revive Social panel lets you select which connected accounts to share to immediately when you publish or update the post. Each active account appears with a checkbox. If Enable Instant Sharing By Default is turned on, the checkboxes are pre-checked for new posts.

On the Pro version, you can click "Edit Message" on each account to write a custom share message for that specific instant share. The free version shows the custom message field as disabled with an upsell notice.

After publishing, a status indicator shows whether the share was successful, partially successful, or failed, with a prompt to check the Sharing Logs for details. A sharing history section shows past instant shares for the post with the account name, time, and status. You can also reshare a previously published post by selecting accounts and clicking "Share Now."

Revive Network — RSS Settings

The RSS Settings page only appears under the Revive Social menu when the Revive Network addon plugin is installed and activated. It requires an active Revive Social Pro subscription - if no valid license is detected, all settings on the page are disabled and a message asks you to activate your Pro license.

Revive Network lets you import posts from external RSS feeds into your WordPress site and share them to your connected social media accounts through Revive Social. You find these settings under Revive Social > RSS Settings in the WordPress admin sidebar.

The number of RSS feeds you can add depends on your Revive Social Pro plan: Starter allows 1 feed, Personal allows 5, Business allows 20, and Marketer allows 100. An error message appears when you reach the feed limit for your plan.

Add-on Settings

Plugin Status

This setting only appears after you have configured an import schedule and saved your settings at least once.

Displays the current status of the Revive Network importer as either "Running" (shown in green) or "Stopped" (shown in red). Click the "Toggle Status" button to switch between the two states. When running, the plugin actively imports new feed items on the schedule you configured. When stopped, no new feed items are imported. This does not affect whether Revive Social shares already-imported feed items — it only controls whether new items are pulled from your RSS feeds.

How often should Revive Network import new feed items?

Selects how frequently the plugin checks your RSS feeds for new items and imports them as WordPress posts. The available intervals come from your WordPress cron schedules and typically include options like hourly, twice daily, daily, and weekly. Choose a shorter interval if your feeds publish frequently and you want near-real-time importing, or a longer interval if your feeds update infrequently.

Number of feeds items to import

Sets how many items the plugin imports from each feed every time the import schedule runs. The minimum is 1 and the maximum is 10. The default is 4. Increase this if your feeds publish many items between import cycles and you want to catch more of them. Keep it lower if you want a steady trickle of content rather than large batches.

Delete feed item post after it has been shared

When enabled, the plugin automatically deletes the imported WordPress post after it has been shared to all of your active social media accounts. The featured image imported with the post is also deleted from your Media Library. Enable this if you only want feed items on your site temporarily for the purpose of sharing them and do not want them to accumulate as permanent content.

Check feed item content for an image

When enabled, the plugin looks inside the full content of each feed item for an image if no featured image is found in the feed excerpt. The first image found is downloaded and set as the featured image for the imported post. Enable this if your feeds include images in the post body rather than in the standard RSS image fields.

Use custom UTM tags

When enabled, reveals additional fields that let you set custom UTM tracking parameters specifically for links shared from imported feed items. These override the UTM settings configured in Revive Social's Post Format tab. Use this if you want to distinguish RSS-sourced shares from your regular post shares in Google Analytics.

When checked, the following sub-fields appear:

  • UTM Source — the source parameter value (e.g., "rss" or "revive-network").
  • Detect source — when checked, the plugin automatically sets the UTM source to the name of the social network the item was shared to (e.g., "facebook", "twitter"), overriding the value in the UTM Source field above. Enable this if you want per-network source tracking without setting it manually.
  • UTM Medium — the medium parameter value (e.g., "social" or "rss-share").
  • UTM Campaign — the campaign name parameter value (e.g., "rss-feed-sharing").

Clear past imported feeds

A button labeled "Clear" that purges the plugin's record of previously imported feed item URLs. This does not delete any posts already imported into your site — it only removes the tracking data that prevents duplicate imports. After clearing, the plugin may re-import feed items that still exist in the RSS feed. Use this if you want to re-share feed items that were previously imported and have since been deleted.

Import new feed items now

A button labeled "Import now" that triggers an immediate import of feed items from all configured feeds without waiting for the next scheduled run. Use this to test your feed configuration or to pull in items right away after adding a new feed.

Delete all plugin settings on uninstall

When enabled, all Revive Network settings, saved feeds, and tracking data are deleted from your WordPress database when you delete (uninstall) the plugin. Leave this disabled if you plan to reinstall later and want to keep your configuration.

RSS Feeds

This section lists all configured RSS feeds. Each feed appears as a numbered group with its own set of fields. Click "Add Feed" to add a new feed (up to your plan's limit), or "Remove Feed" to delete one. Click "Save Changes" to persist any additions or removals.

Each feed group contains:

  • Name — a label for the feed (e.g., "ReviveSocial"). This name is used to create a feed category taxonomy term, which can be useful for filtering in Revive Social's per-account taxonomy settings.
  • RSS Link — the full URL of the RSS or Atom feed (must start with http:// or https://). A "Visit" button opens the feed URL in a new tab so you can verify it loads correctly.
  • Download images — when checked, images from the feed item (from enclosures or content) are downloaded to your Media Library and set as the featured image for the imported post. Leave this unchecked if you do not need local copies of feed images.
